Sokoto Assembly Gives ADC Lawmaker 24 Hours to Retract Claims or Face Suspension

The Sokoto State House of Assembly has given Awaisu Aliyu, the ADC member representing Gada West, 24 hours to publicly retract statements it described as false and damaging to the assembly. The House Committee on House Service, Ethics and Privileges said Aliyu admitted granting the social-media interview but did not provide evidence to support his claims. The committee also rejected his comments on the Tashar Illela–Road Block Road project, saying it was inherited from the previous administration and included in the budget for completion. Lawmakers adopted a recommendation directing Aliyu to ask the media platform that published the interview to remove it and to address journalists in Sokoto to withdraw his remarks. Failure to do so within 24 hours could lead to a three-month suspension without pay.
