Northwest Governors Present Joint Security and Development Plan to Global Partners
Northwest governors have presented a joint Peace, Security and Development Framework aimed at tackling insecurity, poverty, displacement and weak economic opportunities across the seven states. Speaking at a high-level event in New York, Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda said lasting peace requires more than military operations. He said the region must also create jobs, support farmers, rebuild displaced communities and attract responsible private investment. The framework was adopted by all seven Northwest governors in March 2026 after consultations with communities, civil society groups, traditional institutions, women and young people. The United Nations said the region’s stability is important to Nigeria, West Africa and the Sahel, noting that more than 700,000 people have been displaced in the Northwest. The governors are seeking coordinated support for infrastructure, education, healthcare, climate-resilient agriculture, community projects and financing that can help turn the regional plan into practical improvements for affected communities.
