Nigeria Targets Full Gas Market Deregulation by 2028
Nigeria plans to phase out regulated pricing in the domestic gas market by September 2028 and move towards a willing-buyer, willing-seller system. The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority said the transition will depend on measurable conditions showing that key parts of the gas market are mature enough for commercial pricing. The regulator said the plan is backed by the Petroleum Industry Act and supports Nigeria’s goal of becoming a gas-powered economy by 2030. It added that gas must remain affordable for Nigerians while attracting investment into the sector.
