Windstorm Devastates Gashua, Yobe: Two Children Killed, Homes Destroyed

A powerful windstorm accompanied by heavy rain struck Gashua Local Government Area in Yobe on Wednesday around 5pm. Two children died when a tree collapsed onto the shelter where they were taking cover. The storm lasted about 15 minutes but caused widespread damage to buildings, electricity poles, and communication towers. Many injured residents were treated at the local hospital and have since been discharged. Officials from the State Emergency Management Agency are in Gashua to assess the destruction and plan relief distributions. The Council Chairman has appealed to philanthropists and well-meaning individuals to provide food and non-food items to affected families.
