Deco: Gordon Fits Barcelona’s Style Better Than Rashford
Barcelona sporting director Deco says the club signed Anthony Gordon because his energy and playing style suit Hansi Flick’s system better than Marcus Rashford’s. Rashford scored 14 goals as Barcelona won LaLiga and the Spanish Super Cup last season, but the club did not exercise its option to sign him permanently. Barcelona instead paid €70 million to bring Gordon in from Newcastle United. Deco praised Rashford’s contribution but said the team needed greater intensity, especially when Raphinha was unavailable. Gordon has made five assists in his first five matches and has already received strong support from Barcelona fans. Deco also confirmed that a move for Bernardo Silva collapsed because of differing expectations over playing time.
