The Divine ROI: Why Giving to the Poor Is Lending to God
I recently reread Proverbs 19:17 and felt a fresh revelation: helping the poor is truly lending to the Lord. Scripture says He will reward what we have done, and in God’s economy, He never defaults on His promises. The Bible is full of examples. In Matthew 25:31–40, Jesus identifies so closely with the vulnerable that serving them is serving Him. Dorcas’s acts of charity led to her resurrection in Acts. Cornelius’s generosity rose as a memorial before God. Even the Good Samaritan set the standard for neighbourly love. Yet many of us hesitate. We cling to wealth as security or overcorrect against a distorted prosperity message. We forget that God doesn’t need our money but chooses generosity as His method to care for the needy and shape our hearts. Let’s turn from our excuses and trust God as the ultimate guarantor. Examine your own heart, repent of fear and greed, and embrace the joy of giving. Your investment in the poor is the safest in the universe.
