Is President Tinubu to Blame for Nigeria’s Security Crisis?
A leader who consciously avoids tackling a serious problem deserves criticism. President Tinubu knows those fuelling insecurity in Nigeria but seems reluctant to act, possibly to protect political allies who can deliver votes. Meanwhile, citizens are killed regularly. He isn’t entirely at fault, though. He has backed the creation of state police to decentralize security, but that alone won’t end the crisis. What’s needed is full decentralization, allowing licensed private security firms to complement government forces and create thousands of jobs. Any candidate opposing this model must explain how they will tackle insecurity. Until then, Tinubu bears responsibility for inaction, even as he supports what many see as the only viable solution.
