Elderly Rider Drowns in Agbor Flood, Community Demands Better Drainage

Elderly Rider Drowns in Agbor Flood, Community Demands Better Drainage

A 72-year-old man lost his life when rising floodwaters swept him away on Imudia Street in Agbor, Ika South LGA of Delta State. He was returning home on his motorcycle during heavy rain on Wednesday, July 8, when the water level rose so fast that roads became impassable. Residents say the rider parked his bike near a drainage channel and took shelter in a makeshift shop as the rain intensified. When his motorcycle was carried into the fast-flowing drain, he waded in to retrieve it and was overwhelmed by the current. His body was later recovered by local authorities. His son described the loss as heartbreaking and urged lasting solutions to the persistent flooding in Agbor. Other residents are calling on the Delta State Government and Ika South Council to clear blocked waterways and upgrade drainage infrastructure to prevent similar tragedies.
