A Doctor’s Frustration with Nigeria’s Rising Kidnappings
I was born and schooled in Nigeria. I write from frustration and trauma. Last year, I nearly got kidnapped. Armed men beat me, stole my valuables, and threw me off a moving bus. Reporting to the police led nowhere. As a medical doctor, I treat gunshot and machete victims every day. I hear stories of rape and violence. Last night, a nurse described how kidnappers ambushed her, beat her, and stole millions. Now, over 40 students and teachers are still held by bandits in Oyo. Boys, girls, men, and women struggle to survive. How did we let this happen? I only hope for the better and wish strength to all Nigerians.
