Ogun Lawmaker Seeks Stricter Oversight of Constituency Funds After Olokuta Road Stalls
Abeokuta South lawmaker Afolabi Moruf Afuape has called for tighter monitoring of constituency project funds to prevent misappropriation and ensure communities get value for public money. Speaking at a governance colloquium in Abeokuta, Afuape said constituency projects remain important for local development but require effective oversight. He also said delays in budget implementation and funding releases often prevent projects from being completed. He cited the Olokuta Road project, which was included in the 2024 budget but allegedly stopped midway because funds were not released. Other speakers at the event called for people-centred leadership, stronger accountability and reforms to improve the delivery of constituency projects nationwide.
