Akande Claims Some Tinubu Allies Opposed Fashola’s Return to Federal Government
Former presidential aide Laolu Akande has claimed that some people close to President Bola Tinubu may not want Babatunde Fashola in the Federal Government because he would resist questionable practices. Speaking on a podcast, Akande said Fashola’s absence could partly be due to fatigue after years in public service. However, he argued that opposition from people around the President was the more important reason. Akande did not name those allegedly opposed to Fashola or provide evidence for the claim. Fashola, a former Lagos governor and minister under the late Muhammadu Buhari, has held no position in Tinubu’s administration since May 2023. Neither the Presidency nor Fashola has publicly responded.
