Pastor Files for Divorce Citing Wife’s Cutlass Attack in Church; She Accuses Him of Impregnating 18-Year-Old

Akorede filed for divorce at the Grade A Customary Court in Ibadan. He said his wife, Damilola, threatened him with a knife and once brandished a cutlass at him during Sunday service, humiliating him before co-pastors and the congregation. He also accused her of financial recklessness and gluttony. Damilola denied all allegations but consented to end the union. She said she regretted marrying a minister of God after discovering he had impregnated an 18-year-old member of their church. She asked the court to grant her custody of their children and compel him to provide for their welfare. The court found that no customary marriage had taken place and classified them as co-habiting. It awarded custody of their child to Akorede and ordered Damilola to pay ₦15,000 monthly for his upkeep.
