Actor Stanley Amandi Details Alleged South-east Propaganda Role in Coup Investigation
Security investigation records reportedly link actor and filmmaker Stanley Amandi to an alleged 2025 coup plot involving military officers and civilian collaborators. Amandi told investigators that his friendship with a soldier he met at a filmmakers’ gathering in Enugu led to visits to a military barracks and an invitation to a Ramadan event in Abuja. He said a later meeting allegedly shifted from discussions about Nigeria’s economic and security challenges to plans for a change of government. According to his statement, he was asked to coordinate public support and social-media messaging across the South-east if the alleged takeover succeeded. He said a proposed mobilisation budget of about ₦50 million was prepared, while he received ₦100,000 described as an appreciation payment. Amandi was arrested in November 2025 and said he had considered reporting the alleged plan but feared reprisals. No charges against him in connection with the allegation were known at the time of the report.
