Coalition Opposes Calls to Remove NSCDC Chief Over Minna Custody Deaths

A civil society coalition has opposed calls for the removal of NSCDC Commandant-General Ahmed Abubakar Audi after 37 suspected illegal miners died in custody in Minna, Niger State. The group says the deaths require a thorough investigation and justice for the families involved. The coalition argues that the Minna operation was carried out by the Niger State Command and that Audi was not present or directly involved. It says the suspended Niger State commandant and 21 officers linked to the arrests and detention are already under investigation. It also urged the Federal Government to allow the independent inquiry and other investigations to run their course before taking action against the NSCDC chief. The coalition called for the findings to be made public and for anyone found responsible to face appropriate sanctions.
