Widow Says Snakebite, Not Illness, Killed Major General Rabe in Bandit Captivity
New details from the widow of Major General Rabe Abubakar (retd.) suggest a snakebite led to his death while in bandit captivity in Katsina State. Hajiya Amina Abubakar, now recovering in hospital, insisted her husband had no history of diabetes or hypertension before their abduction on May 30 along the Marabar Musawa–Kafinsoli road. She recalled his leg swelling suddenly and, after questioning the captors, learned he may have been bitten by a snake. The bandits applied local remedies, but his condition worsened and he died in her arms. Defence Headquarters said troops under Operation Fansan Yamma mounted a rescue and investigations are underway into an apparent security leak that let the kidnappers attempt to flee before forces arrived.
