SWAN Patron Urges Sports Journalists to Drive Youth Empowerment and Accountability
SWAN National Patron Moses Andishu has urged sports journalists to use the influence of sports and the media to advance national development, youth empowerment and Nigeria’s global competitiveness. Speaking at the SWAN Triennial Congress in Kaduna, he called on journalists to hold sports administrators accountable, demand better infrastructure and promote policies that support grassroots talent development. He also highlighted poor pay, inadequate welfare and limited insurance coverage among sports writers. Andishu warned that the growing focus on foreign leagues has weakened local competitions, talent development and sponsorship opportunities. He urged sports journalists to promote indigenous sports, challenge misinformation and advocate mentorship, modern facilities and sustainable funding for young athletes.
