Lagos to Deploy 220 Compactor Trucks to Improve Waste Collection
Lagos State says it will deploy 220 additional compactor trucks to support private waste collectors and improve refuse evacuation across the state. Deputy Governor Kadri Hamzat said the trucks are needed as Lagos generates more waste because of its growing population. He urged residents to use accredited Private Sector Participation operators instead of unregulated cart pushers, whose disposal methods can worsen drainage blockage and flooding. The state also says it is strengthening emergency waste-response teams, supporting waste collectors and expanding facilities for waste recovery. Residents were urged to pay for collection services and keep their homes, streets and drainage channels clean.
