High-Tension Wire Collapse Sparks Fire in Ilorin, Leaving One Dead and One Injured
A snapped high-tension electricity cable in Ilorin fell onto four live lines early one morning, sparking a fire that engulfed nearby buildings. Thirty-year-old Olabosun Isiaka was trapped while trying to remove a fuse and later died from his injuries. His younger brother sustained burns but is now receiving treatment in a local hospital. Neighbours say the faulty wire had shown signs of imminent collapse and was reported to the local IBEDC office in Ilorin days before the incident. No action was taken until the cable finally gave way and caused the blaze. The case has been reported to the Oke-Oyi Police Division, and the victim’s remains were moved to the mortuary in Oyun after his parents arrived from Lagos. The Kwara State Fire Service confirmed that the fallen high-tension wire caused the fire and that IBEDC staff restored the line the following day.
