NSCDC Officer Killed in Clash with Illegal Miners in Paikoro, Niger State
An NSCDC officer, ASC II Aminu Eshin, was killed on Wednesday, July 22 during a routine patrol at a mining site in Korokpa Village, Paikoro Local Government Area. Residents said civil defence personnel moved to seize illegal mining materials. Suspected miners blocked the road, leading to a violent confrontation. Gunshots rang out and one officer sustained a fatal head wound. Some miners were also injured and taken to IBB Specialist Hospital in Minna. The Niger State NSCDC spokesperson confirmed the attack was unprovoked. Reinforcements arrived but could not save the fallen officer. Efforts are ongoing with other security agencies to apprehend those responsible. Officials urged residents to remain law-abiding and to share credible information to support the fight against illegal mining across the state.
