Abuja Court Hangs Boko Haram Suspect for 2015 Maiduguri Attacks
A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced Boko Haram member Alkali Yarima, also known as Laari, to death by hanging for his involvement in the 2015 attacks on Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State. Justice James Omotosho also imposed life imprisonment for weapons training abroad. Yarima received 35 years in jail for professing membership of the Boko Haram group, 30 years on a separate terrorism count, and 10 years each on three additional charges. The federal government brought seven counts under the Terrorism (Prevention Amendment) Act 2013. The Attorney-General’s office says it is determined to stamp out terrorism and make Nigeria safe for all citizens.
