2-Year-Old Finds Hidden Gun in Sofa, Fatally Shoots Himself; Mother and Partner Arrested

A two-year-old boy died after accidentally discharging a firearm he discovered between the cushions of a couch in Highland, Southern California. When deputies arrived, they attempted life-saving measures before the child was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department says the boy’s 20-year-old mother and her 52-year-old boyfriend were at home when the shooting occurred. Both adults now face felony child abuse charges and are held on $1.35 million bail. Another child in the home at the time has been placed in the care of Child and Family Services as the investigation continues.
