UNN Confirms Peter Obi’s Degree Is Genuine, Says He Met 1980 Admission Requirements

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has confirmed that Peter Obi was duly admitted to study Philosophy in 1980 and awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1984. The university said the degree certificate is authentic and that Obi met the admission requirements in force at the time. It stated that his qualification was based on a combination of his June 1978 WAEC result and a November/December 1978 GCE result. The clarification follows claims that Obi could not have gained admission because his June 1978 result showed passes, rather than credits, in English Language and Mathematics. UNN said no remedial programme, exemption or alternative admission route was involved. However, the newspaper said it had not independently obtained the details of the November/December 1978 GCE result referenced by UNN, as the university did not provide the annexures mentioned in its response.
