Monday Agbonika Assumes Duty as AIG of Police Zone 5
AIG Monday Agbonika has assumed duty as the new Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone 5, covering the Edo and Delta State police commands. He took over in Benin City on July 29, 2026, succeeding AIG Salman-Dogo Garba, who has retired. Agbonika was Commissioner of Police in Edo State before his promotion to AIG on May 18. A Kogi State native, he joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 and has served in criminal investigation, public relations, divisional and area commands, state command and Force Headquarters. He holds degrees in psychology, organisational psychology, and security and strategic studies, and is pursuing a doctorate in peace and conflict studies. His previous assignments include anti-robbery and anti-fraud investigations, community policing roles, and service with the UN Police Mission in Liberia.
