NELFUND Student Loans: Support for Education or a Future Debt Burden?
I support making higher education more accessible, but I do not believe a loan should be presented as a gift or automatic empowerment. Students who use the NELFUND scheme will still have repayment obligations after graduation. Access to funding can help many Nigerians remain in school when fees and living costs are difficult to meet. However, the public should clearly understand the difference between a student loan, a scholarship and a grant. The real question is whether graduates will have enough decent job opportunities and income to repay without being pushed into further hardship. Education support matters, but the terms and long-term impact of the loan deserve honest public debate.
