Enugu Woman Receives Donations After Viral Childlessness Dispute; Husband Challenges Her Account
Gertrude Ngwu has received donations and clothing from well-wishers in Enugu after a video of her crying at her husband’s chieftaincy coronation went viral. The footage appeared to show her being left out while other wives received gifts. Some viewers sympathised with her and offered support, including adoption offers. At a gathering on Friday, November 6, guests celebrated Gertrude with music and dancing and presented her with wrappers and other clothes. She told a broadcaster that years of mockery and disrespect over her childlessness had affected her emotionally and led her to leave her husband’s home. Her husband disputed parts of her account. He said they had sought medical help and denied stopping prescribed medication or allowing his second wife and her children to mock Gertrude. He also said he wanted another wife because he hoped to have a child and continue his family line. The co-wife likewise denied mocking Gertrude.
