Madugu Apologises as Super Falcons Miss 2027 Women’s World Cup, Says He Is Not Afraid of Sack

Super Falcons coach Justine Madugu has apologised to Nigerians after the team’s disappointing 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign ended their hopes of qualifying for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Nigeria were eliminated in the quarter-finals by Cameroon and later lost 2-1 to South Africa in the race for an inter-confederation playoff place. The result means the nine-time African champions will miss the Women’s World Cup for the first time. Madugu accepted responsibility for the failure, saying the players gave their best but fell short at crucial moments. He cited missed chances and defensive lapses, while insisting he is not afraid of being sacked by the Nigeria Football Federation.
