UNIOSUN Expands to 128 Academic Programmes as Enrolment Reaches 42,780

Osun State University says it has expanded its academic programmes from 66 at inception to 128, while student enrolment has risen from 14,680 to 42,780. The institution also reported an increase in postgraduate programmes from 99 to 299 and said it had secured 75 international research grants. Speaking at the university’s 16th convocation in Osogbo, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Odunayo Clement Adebooye credited the growth to support from stakeholders and called for continued commitment to academic excellence. The Chairman of the National Universities Commission Governing Board, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, urged reforms to address overlapping responsibilities between the NUC and professional regulatory bodies. He said inconsistent accreditation requirements can force repeated programme restructuring, raise costs and place unnecessary pressure on universities and students. Ogundipe proposed coordinated regulatory reforms, clearer accreditation requirements and early public disclosure of accreditation status to better protect students.
