NCAA Starts Lagos Airport Safety Training as Certification Scores Improve
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has begun an aerodrome certification course in Lagos to strengthen aviation safety and improve inspectors’ technical skills. The training started on November 2 and will run in three sessions, ending on November 20, 2026. The course covers airport certification standards, safety management, emergency planning, auditing and regulatory procedures. NCAA Director-General Capt. Chris Najomo said aerodrome certification is important for aviation safety and noted that five designated international airports in Nigeria have achieved certification. Nigeria’s 2026 ICAO validation score for aerodromes and ground aids rose from 57.6% to 95.16%. The country’s overall Effective Implementation score also increased, from 70.23% to 91.30%. NCAA says the training will support these gains through stronger inspections, continued surveillance and improved professional competence.
