Onaiyekan: Governors Have One Vote and Cannot Choose for Nigerians

Cardinal John Onaiyekan has urged Nigerians to protect their voting rights ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speaking in Enugu, he said Governor Chukwuma Soludo and other governors have only one vote each and cannot decide who citizens should support. The cleric questioned the credibility of past elections, saying free and fair polls should not be difficult to conduct. He called for a transparent process that respects voters’ choices. Onaiyekan also said Catholic bishops had raised concerns about Nigeria’s political climate during a visit to President Bola Tinubu. He urged INEC to deliver credible elections in 2027.
