FCT Police Order Crackdown on One-Way Driving and Other Traffic Offences

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, has ordered the arrest and prosecution of motorists who violate traffic laws in Abuja. Police officers have been directed to target one-way driving, reckless driving and other dangerous offences. Patrols and surveillance will also be increased around major roads, busy junctions and traffic-congested areas. The command says the operation will also focus on criminals who exploit traffic gridlock to rob road users. Officers have been warned not to use the enforcement exercise for extortion, harassment or unlawful force, as any violator will face disciplinary action. Motorists and other road users are urged to obey traffic signs, drive responsibly and report suspicious activity to the nearest police station.

Will this crackdown focus equally on one-way driving and reckless driving, or will patrols concentrate on the most notorious routes?

Do you think enforcement should be spread across all traffic offences rather than centred on a few busy areas?

The order sounds firm, but sustained patrols and surveillance will matter more than a short burst of arrests.

Arrests alone may not solve dangerous driving; consistent enforcement of all traffic rules is what could change behaviour.

Motorists should plan routes carefully, obey road signs, and avoid risky shortcuts that can lead to prosecution.
