Rybakina Beats Sabalenka to Claim First US Open Title and World No. 1 Spot
Elena Rybakina defeated defending champion Aryna Sabalenka 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 to win the 2026 US Open women’s singles title, her first crown at Flushing Meadows. The Kazakh player, who had never previously gone beyond the fourth round at the tournament, overcame an ankle injury concern before producing a dominant run. She also beat Sabalenka in the Australian Open final earlier this year. Rybakina led by a set before Sabalenka forced a decider. However, Rybakina broke early in the final set, extended her lead to 5-2 and sealed the championship with an ace. The result gives her a third Grand Slam title and will see her replace Sabalenka as world number one.
