FG Unveils New 2026–2030 Plan to Eliminate Child Labour
The Federal Government has unveiled a revised National Policy on Child Labour and a 2026–2030 action plan aimed at keeping children out of hazardous work and in school. At a national dialogue in Abuja, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume said the plan links child protection with education, social protection, poverty reduction and job creation. He urged states, employers, parents and communities to support its implementation. The government also released the 2024 National Child Labour Survey Report. Labour Minister Muhammad Dingyadi said millions of Nigerian children remain in labour, including hazardous work in agriculture, mining, domestic service, street trading and construction. Officials said enforcement of child-protection laws, stronger labour inspections, rehabilitation and accountability would be central to the new plan.
