Katsina Police Rescue Nine Passengers After Fierce Gunfight with Bandits
Operatives of the Katsina State Police Command foiled a kidnapping attempt and freed nine passengers on the Katsina–Kankara highway. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, armed bandits intercepted a commercial vehicle near Tashar Kanya Village, abducting 11 occupants. A distress call prompted the Divisional Police Officer in Kankara to dispatch a joint team, including officers from the Violent Crime Rescue Unit. The operatives engaged the kidnappers in a gun battle, forcing them to abandon the captives and flee into the bush. A follow-up search recovered nine victims unharmed, while efforts continue to locate the remaining two. The Commissioner of Police praised the officers’ professionalism and urged residents to share credible intelligence to bolster ongoing security operations against banditry in the state.
