Boko Haram Faction Beheads Over Seven Captives in Borno, Displays Bodies as Warning
A faction of Boko Haram known as Jama’atu Ahlis-Sunna Lidda’Awati Wal-Jihad has beheaded more than seven hostages after a failed escape from their camp in Borno State. Reports say the victims’ bodies were displayed as a warning to other captives. Abducted civilians, mostly women and children, remain under brutal conditions. A disturbing video obtained by reporters showed armed militants surrounding the escapees before their execution. About 416 women and children are still held by this group. Some have fallen sick or died due to starvation and lack of medical care. The militants reportedly buried the deceased within the camp grounds. The Borno South Youth Alliance has appealed to Nigerians and international organisations to help negotiate the release of at least 50 captives. They warn that lives are at risk as suffering in the camp intensifies.
