NURTW Leader Faces Manslaughter and Attempted Murder Charges in Lagos
The Lagos State Government arraigned 55-year-old National Union of Road Transport Workers chieftain Shamsudeen Oladiti before the Ikeja High Court. He faces three counts of involuntary manslaughter, conspiracy and attempted murder after a dispatch rider, Ramon Imam, allegedly died from a brutal beating on Lagos Island in September 2025. Prosecutors also say Oladiti attacked Samuel Omale a month earlier, causing severe injuries. The charges cite Sections 224, 411 and 230 of the Lagos State Criminal Law 2015. Oladiti pleaded not guilty and filed a bail application on medical grounds in April 2026. Justice Olawale Alebiosu granted the request for a medical report and ordered Kirikiri Correctional Centre to confirm Oladiti’s health status at a state hospital. The trial is set to resume on June 15, 2026.
