Edo Agency Says Residents Refusing Flood Evacuation Put Lives at Risk

The Edo State Emergency Management Agency says resistance to evacuation remains a major challenge in flood-prone communities. The agency’s executive secretary, Jerry Idahosa, said emotional ties to ancestral homes often make people reluctant to relocate. He stressed that evacuation is temporary and intended only to protect lives until floodwaters recede. EDOSEMA is working with traditional rulers, community leaders and local emergency committees to improve compliance with flood alerts. Residents in vulnerable areas have been urged to follow official safety directives and evacuate when necessary.
