Ismail Haniyeh’s Sister Denies Incitement Charges in Israeli Court

Sabah al-Salam Haniyeh, sister of former Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh, has denied charges of identifying with a terrorist organisation and inciting violence in an Israeli court. Prosecutors allege that messages sent from her phone praised and encouraged the Hamas-led October 7 attacks. She pleaded not guilty and said she cannot read or write, adding that relatives often use her phone. The 57-year-old said she grew up in Gaza without formal education and uses an electronic pen to listen to Quran verses. Prosecutors challenged her claim, citing the timing and frequency of messages linked to her phone. She was arrested in April 2024 after authorities searched her home in Tel Sheva. She maintains that she did not incite violence and says her family also sought shelter during the October 7 attacks.
