Super Eagles May Hand Alverca Defender Isaac James First Call-Up
Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle is reportedly considering Alverca left-back Isaac James for Nigeria’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau. The 22-year-old has started all six Portuguese league matches for Alverca this season, recording two assists in 514 minutes. He can play at left-back, left wing-back and on the left side of a three-man defence. James could provide an additional option following Zaidu Sanusi’s injury. Bruno Onyemaechi remains in contention, but a call-up for James would allow Chelle to assess another young defender ahead of the qualifiers. James began his career with Garden City Panthers in Nigeria before spells in Denmark and France. He made his professional debut for Lorient in August 2024 before joining Alverca.
