Africa CDC: Limited Global Interest Delays Vaccine for Bundibugyo Ebola Strain
Africa CDC Director-General Dr Jean Kaseya says there is still no approved vaccine for the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola because it has received limited international attention. Speaking on Channels Television, Kaseya said a vaccine might have been developed faster if the strain were affecting Western countries. He argued that some international partners continue to view Ebola as mainly an African problem. He noted that Bundibugyo has recorded fewer outbreaks than the Zaire strain, which has caused more than 16 outbreaks and attracted greater research investment.
