Rotary Opens 2026 RYLA Boot Camp for 402 Youths in Lagos

Rotary International District 9111 has opened its 2026 Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA) boot camp for 402 young people at Sea School, Apapa, Lagos. District Governor Bukola Bakare urged participants to see themselves as leaders of today and to build vocational, leadership and technology skills instead of relying solely on white-collar jobs. She said the nine-day programme is designed to help young people become stronger contributors to society while building useful networks and friendships. The participants were selected from more than 1,000 applicants, according to the planning committee. Sessions will cover vocational, management and life skills, while guest speakers Charles Inojie and Olufemi Fagade encouraged them to reject drug abuse, peer pressure and other harmful behaviour. The opening ceremony also recognised Zainab Lawal as the best speaker. She and fellow participant Alade Ibrahim said the camp had exposed them to new people and ideas that could help shape their future leadership journeys.
