Jurisdiction Ruling Deferred in Angwa Rukuba Massacre Trial; Suspects to Remain in DSS Custody

Jurisdiction Ruling Deferred in Angwa Rukuba Massacre Trial; Suspects to Remain in DSS Custody

The Plateau State High Court in Jos has reserved judgment on a preliminary objection challenging its jurisdiction in the trial of suspects linked to the Angwa Rukuba massacre. Defense lawyers argued that two defendants filed their objection on time, while the prosecution admitted its counter-affidavit was late and successfully sought an extension. Justice Gedeliah Fwomyon adjourned the jurisdiction motion to July 2 and set the main hearing for July 15. The defendants will stay in DSS custody as they face charges of criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, illegal possession of firearms, and dealing in arms over the Palm Sunday attack in Jos North LGA that claimed about 30 lives.

Until the court rules, all parties should prepare evidence on both jurisdiction and substantive charges to avoid further delays in trial proceedings.
