Tony Elumelu: Africa’s Youth Need Jobs and Infrastructure, Not Charity
Tony Elumelu addressed global leaders at the Africa Forward Summit, calling for a new era of equal and strategic partnerships for Africa. He insisted that the continent’s young population does not need handouts but opportunities driven by investment, infrastructure and economic empowerment. He stressed that access to electricity and modern infrastructure remains critical for economic transformation. He argued that the private sector must mobilise capital to drive investment in power and key sectors, which would stimulate industrialisation, create jobs and lift millions out of poverty. Rejecting narratives of dependency, he said young Africans need jobs, digital access and an enabling environment to thrive. He highlighted his foundation’s work in training over 2.5 million young people and funding more than 27,000 entrepreneurs across all 54 African countries.
