Barcelona Drop Aymeric Laporte Pursuit After Athletic Club Raise Demands
Barcelona reportedly ended their pursuit of Athletic Club defender Aymeric Laporte after negotiations stalled over the transfer fee and strained relations between both clubs. Laporte was said to be available for less than €15 million after helping Spain win the 2026 World Cup alongside Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsí. However, Athletic Club reportedly increased their demands once formal talks began. The clubs' relationship had also deteriorated following Barcelona's unsuccessful attempt to sign Nico Williams, who later committed his future to Athletic Club. Barcelona have now entered the new season with João Cancelo as their only major defensive signing.
