Tinubu Orders 100,000 CNG Conversion Kits to Ease Transport Costs
President Tinubu has ordered the immediate deployment of 100,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion kits nationwide. This move aims to cushion Nigerian commuters from rising transport costs linked to the Middle East conflict. Executive Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (Pi-CNG), Ismaeel Ahmed, announced the directive after meeting the President at the presidential villa. He said the kits will be rolled out within two to three weeks, enabling vehicle owners and tricycle operators to switch their engines to run on gas. Tinubu also instructed that infrastructure expansion focus on key transportation corridors in northern Nigeria. Currently, 77 CNG refilling stations are at various stages of development. A chain of refueling points will be established along the Lokoja-Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano-Maiduguri route.
