NAWOJ Election: Aisha Ibrahim Set for Second Term as Two Aspirants Are Disqualified
NAWOJ National Chairperson Aisha Ibrahim is set to return for a second term after emerging unopposed ahead of the association’s National Delegates Conference in Kano. National Secretary Wasilah Ladan and several other officers also emerged unopposed after the screening exercise. The electoral committee disqualified Chizoba Ogbeche, citing a constitutional requirement on attendance at chapel-level congresses. The report says the committee faced alleged pressure, threats and intimidation, including from Ogbeche’s husband, a special adviser to the Cross River State governor. Fatima Rasheed of Kwara State has since emerged unopposed for the Zone D vice-president position. Rabi Mohammad was also disqualified after accepting an appointment as Director of Social Mobilisation at the Sokoto State Universal Basic Education Board. The rules cited by the committee bar members who accept political appointments from voting or standing for election in the union and its affiliates. Hannatu Mohammed has therefore emerged unopposed. The conference in Kano will feature elections for the remaining contested positions.
