Lagos State University Unions Threaten Indefinite Strike Over Unpaid Allowances
Staff unions in Lagos State-owned universities have threatened to begin an immediate and indefinite strike over the alleged failure to implement their 2026 agreements with the state government. The Joint Action Committee, made up of ASUU, SSANU, NAAT and NASU, said the action would affect LASU, Lagos State University of Education, Lagos State University of Science and Technology, and the Lagos State University College of Medicine. The unions said a joint technical committee agreed on new allowance rates in August, including a 40 per cent Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance for ASUU and 35 per cent allowances for SSANU and NASU. They alleged that September salaries were paid without the agreed rates or arrears. They are demanding executive approval, payment of nine months’ arrears, implementation of the Lagos factor and other outstanding commitments. The unions said they remain open to immediate action by the Lagos State Government to avert the strike.
