Chinese Tourist’s Lagos Experience Sparks Debate on Visitor Safety and Nigeria’s Image
A Chinese tourist reportedly said he was harassed by beggars and touts in Lagos and advised other foreign visitors against travelling to Nigeria. I believe one experience in Lagos should not be used to judge the whole country. Nigeria is diverse, and visitors can have very different experiences across its cities and regions. Rather than blaming whole ethnic or regional groups, the discussion should focus on improving public safety, visitor support, tourism infrastructure and the conduct of touts in major cities.
