Spain Plans to Move 500 Unaccompanied Migrant Children From Ceuta
Spain is preparing to relocate about 500 unaccompanied migrant children from Ceuta, its North African enclave, to the mainland. The move is aimed at easing pressure on the territory’s overstretched child-protection facilities. Officials say the emergency plan will focus on vulnerable girls who arrived during a large influx from Morocco in late July. The children may be placed with protection organisations, foster families or temporary accommodation providers. More than 2,000 minors were identified in Ceuta after the influx. While opposition politicians want the children returned to Morocco, the Spanish government says it is required to protect them under Spanish law.
