Agbara Nla: The Return Earns ₦354.5m to Lead Nigerian Box Office
Faith-based Nollywood film Agbara Nla: The Return has grossed ₦354.5 million in Nigerian cinemas, topping the latest weekend box-office chart. The film earned ₦47.5 million over the weekend, ahead of Street Fighter with ₦36.43 million and The Other Mummy with ₦8.67 million. Released on October 1, the remake had earned ₦307.2 million by October 16. Its cinema campaign drew on nostalgia for the 1993 Mount Zion classic, church-community engagement and online promotion. The distributor said the film also recorded more than ₦71 million in advance ticket sales in one day. The film revisits the story of Muwonleru, a village controlled by the herbalist Isawuru, whose influence is challenged when Christian evangelists arrive. Mike Bamiloye returns as Isawuru, while Damilola Mike-Bamiloye and Joshua Mike-Bamiloye directed the new version. Agbara Nla: The Return also opened in selected UK and Canadian cinemas with a reported gross of $120,660. Its performance highlights the growing commercial potential of faith-based films in Nigeria’s cinema market.
