Ekiti Deploys 15 CNG Buses, Targets 50% Cut in Transport Fares
Ekiti State has deployed 15 compressed natural gas (CNG) buses as part of a pilot scheme aimed at reducing transport costs for residents by up to 50%. Governor Biodun Oyebanji said the buses, donated by the Federal Government, would be managed through the state transport agency and distributed to transport unions. He urged operators to ensure the lower operating costs are reflected in fares paid by commuters. The buses are expected to serve routes from Ado Ekiti to Lagos, Ibadan, Onitsha and Abuja. The state said it plans to expand the fleet to improve access to cheaper interstate travel.
